We live on a small farm in the mountains of western NC. We've been Backwoods home folk since the start of the third year of magazines. Glad to be here on the web with so many like minded folk.

Welcome to the forum, I'm originally from the Canton area of WNC in Haywood County, the majority of my family still live in the area.

We're in the Brushy Mountains. Draco to be exact.

I've got a friend in Canton. He talks about how the smell used to be from the paper mill. He never got used to the smell.

Beautiful area, though. I dated a girl for a while that went to Haywood Tech. Small world, ain't it.

Very small world, and I didn't live in town where the smell is bad, it isn't really noticeable in the outlying areas. :)

It can take your breath away on I-40.

That's a beautiful area when you get out of Canton/Waynesville.

We lived in the Beaverdam area and I have some family in the Cruso area, far from the smell. :) I agree though best to avoid the immediate area of Canton due to the smell and Waynesville is too tourist oriented for me, so it's best to avoid as well. The whole county's property prices have went so crazy that I don't plan on going back when I retire, so I suppose it doesn't really matter too much anymore.
