Nothing on the box says how often the paste form of Ivermectin should be administered. I have been giving it once a month.

Unless your horse is in a small space or pasture and can easily be reinfected I would back off on that a bit. I have never had a problem with dosing with Ivermectin everytime it probally wouldn't hurt to change things up a tad so the parasites don't get used to one thing. I would do a couple rounds of Ivermectin, then another type like the apple flavored fen something and then maybe an ivermectin and then a wormer like Quest... although some have issues with Quest if given the exact dosage for the animal I doubt it if you will have any problems at all...
And if you live in an area that hard frosts you only have to worm them after the ground is frozen and then give them and their digestive systems a break til spring!
Just my 2 cents...

I would not dose with ivermectin any closer than every 8 weeks.

I think the main reason is that it is just too hard on their system... it would be like taking a good gut bacteria killing dose of antibiotics every month... over time that would really not be good for your system... I personally don't worm more then once every 2 months and generally the schedule is say march, may, july, sept, late november after frosts... then I let them rest.
But if you get one in chock full of worms you also have to watch out for colic cause you kill too many at once... with that I would use one of the lessor pastes first, then 2 weeks to a month worm with Ivermectin, then a month later I would use Quest if the horse was in good shape and specific for it's weight. With Ivermectin you can get by with giving an overdose but not quest, you could also try zimectrin gold or something similar... by then you should be worm free and could resume the 2 month schedule... and it would never hurt to give some probiotics afterwards as it will restore some good bacteria to the gut!
Good Luck!
