Since I read about the blackfly problem killing chickens in Illinois, I've been researching Mosquito machines, since I wondered if a mosquito machine would work on blackfly.
Since they're drawn to the CO2 in your breath, seems like the ones that use that for an attractant would work - if the net is fine enough to hold the smaller critters.

I found this site that is pretty informative and frank about how the various ones work, (or don't work) even though they're selling them. I like the looks of the mosquito terminator because it works on DC power. $300-$400 is a lot for bug control for most homesteaders, but if blackfly pests are killing your stock and keeping you from the garden, it might pay for itself!
(Also, since no chemicals are used to kill the bugs, the bugs can be emptied out of the net for the chickens to eat!)
Has anyone used any type of mosquito machine of the non-poison or non-bug zapper type? If so, would it work on blackfly? (Buffalo gnats)
