Found this link on another site. Take it with a grain of salt.

Further research turned up another link from a trusted site.

IMHO, use this information only if you can't restock your supply of medications.

Thought FWIW. If you have things like aspirin that are just past expiration, hold on to them. Replinish your supply, as if you didn't have them in the back of the cabinet. In a couple of years, if you still have them, and can get more, toss, then. Sorta like having a plan, and a backup plan that's only used if there isn't any other choice.

I have mixed emotions about posting this. So, I do urge all due caution, especially where prescription meds are involved. Your thoughts and opinions are welcome. If you have additional links that'll give more specific info on individual items, that'll be appreciated, too.

FYI: a friend of mine said that one of the best houseplant fertilizers is birth control pills. If anyone has any that they are not taking, try them out by putting one or two in your houseplants.

Thanks for the info. I can't tell you how many times I went to the store to get aspirn or whatever just because it was a month or two out of date. Now I can weight the effort of an emergancy trip to the store with how out of date the meds are.

Oh, and firegirl969 won't the birth control pills make your plants infertile.... Joking of course.

The glucose testing strips for diabetics do go bad not long after the expiration on some brands, but I don't know about all of them. Ketone strips last for a long time regardless of expiration date. Most medications last for a long time after the date.

A lady at the church food ministry was telling us one day up there that she was told that OTC drugs are good for 3 years pass the expiration date and prescription drugs are good for an average of 1 year pass the expiration date.
