Is there a special rack for stacking pt jars in canner? And is it safe to do meat this way?
Thanks for any info you can give.

Sissy, I just ordered a second rack to go in my Presto to make stacking pints a little easier. But you don't have to have a rack. I've double stacked mine for years without any problems.

Just place each pint in the canner so it's resting on 2 jars below. If you only a a few on the top layer, put in more jars without lids and fill them with water. They'll hold the others upright.

Yes, you can pressure can meats in pints, double stacked. Use the same times and pressure that you use for single layers.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Lee, It does help . I'm canning ground chuck, I got on sale. Looks like a long night. But double stacking will help. Got meat balls in now next ground. I am using a bottom rack form another canner.
Thanks again,
Sissy

Sissy,

My canner actually came with two racks. One to put in the bottom and one to sit between the two layers of pint jars. However, most of what I can is done in quarts...

You can use any kind of rack for the second one. You could use one of those round pie cooling racks that looks like a round oven rack. Also, you might see if the rack from your hot bath canner would work. I've never tried that, but it might fit depending on the size of your canner.

Thanks Paul, I'm using another canner bottom. I have 2 or 3 old canners. The water bath rack is to big, I tried :yes4:
