Want to save seed next year, but don't know which heirloom green bean to grow here on the southern Oregon coast...any suggestions...

Also, I got strawberries given to me by a family member, and tho they look great with lots of beautiful leaves, they put out small, mishapen berries and lots of runners. Someone suggested Rainier? Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

You may want to check your county extension service and/or visit garden centers and farm feed/seed stores in your area. They are usually the best sources for what grows in a particular area. When visiting stores, look for older staff members, as they're more likely to have the information you need based on their actual experiences.

Sorry, I can't help with the strawberries, as I don't have any idea which ones grow where you live. Maybe someone else, from your area, can lend a hand.

Blue Lake is a very productive pole bean and gets rave reviews for flavor.
Developed on the west coast, it's likely a sure bet.

There's several possible causes of small and misshapened strawberries...poor pollination, viruses and other dieases, insect damage, overfertilization to name a few.

Here's an idea for the strawberries......if they were given to you, were they last year's runners from the friends plants? If so,you should have nipped off the blossoms and just let them grow this year.....although first year runners will make berries, they are often misshapen and small, and lacking in flavor.......

Next year should be better, but don't let any of this year's runners keep the blooms and grow berries, you'll get a much better result this way......then you just rotate the plants out older for newer....the older plants will tire out and stop producing good yields, when they do,you'll have established plants to replace them...
