Well im glad to see a sports thread on here. College football season is upon us. Who is your favorite college team? Mine comes from the Big 12 and is from my homestate of Missouri. That's right, the Mizzou Tigers. After whopping Illinois 37-9, Mizzou is off to a good start.
The Canes, last nights win against FSU was an excellent game.

Teg - that was a good game. I'm not a particular college football fan - but I will watch CU Buffs vs. CSU Rams (they call it the Rocky Mountain Showdown) - that was on Sunday and was a good game.
Most people I know that are college team fans are fanatic - that's for sure! Have a good friend at work that's a Mizzou fan - he's always going off to see them play!
Here's hoping your teams have a great season!

We turned down free tickets for PSU game today, it isn't so much that you get wet watching the game, but the fields where you park and tailgate will be a mudpit, it has been raining for two days, there will be cars stuck in the mud later today.

Folks around here are heavily into the OSU Buckeyes (not me). Saw they gave away yet another one last night. Same old, same old.
Not an Ohio State fan but I thought they had that game won, they seem to have a knack for losing in big games.

3 games 3 wins for Penn State Nittany Lions, they were called one of the top three teams in the country yesterday.

They are definitely playing well, but next week they start their Big Ten opponents I doubt they'll have much trouble though, I'm not a Penn State fan but I do like Joe Paterno so it's nice to see them doing well.
On a side note, my Canes are also playing well but they will have a big test next week vs Virginia Tech.

Iowa spoiled a perfect season for us last year, now we will either be looking for revenge, or let it get into our heads...we'll see.

I love my Michigan Spartans, although in football they rarely do anything much, but they make up for it come basketball season or hockey season,I don't really care for pro sports besides baseball and hockey, pro football and basketball are so full of thugs and showoffs I can't stand to watch it anymore.

Here comes another exciting football week! Wonder if Missouri can keep up with win streak!
Yup, should be a good weekend, little anxious to see how Miami does against Va Tech, should be a good test of their progress.

The Pac 10 is a cupcake conference who have exposed the The Big 10 as a cupcake conference. AP and Coaches polls both give these two conferences preference when it is not warranted. Case in point...Early this season, LSU beat Washington in a tight game. USC lost to unranked washington, they dropped to 12 in the poll. LSU climbs to 4th and loses a very close game to Number 1 Florida. LSU drops to 12. Number 4 USC gets BLOWN OUT by Oregon and they drop to....12???? That means the pollsters give equal negative weight to a narrow loss to #1 Florida as they give to #10 Oregon of the Cupcake PAC-10. Only USC could escape the harsh judgment of the Pollsters. So far this year, only one team has shown that they can control Tebow and the Florida offense. LSU. Here is the nightmare developing in the BCS...LSU beats Bama in a close game and then wins out the rest of the season. They play #1 Florida in the SEC Championship game. Alabama wins out after a narrow loss to LSU. Florida goes unbeaten into the SEC Championship game, loses a close game in the Florida-LSU rematch. TEXAS LOSES ONE GAME.
Going into the SEC Championship game the rankings should be
#1 Florida
#2 LSU
#3 Alabama
#4 Iowa (assuming they lose to no one, sorry their conference is weak these days and they still have a matchup against Ohio St.)
#5 Boise St (assuming they go undefeated...sorry, their schedule simply does not warrant leapfrogging 1 loss SEC Teams)
#6 Oregon (assuming they do not implode like the tend to do, but again not worthy of moving ahead of 1 loss SEC teams)
#7 Texas (assuming they lose only one game, Texas A&M?)
#8 Cincinnati (weak conference, Final game, Ranked Pittsburgh)
#9 TCU (weak conference, Ranked Utah coming up)
#10 Penn St. (assuming they survive Ohio St. Game)
In this very plausible scenario, The BCS Championship Game will be either LSU-Bama (pollsters will avoid this like the plague), LSU-Iowa(who knows, in the pollsters desire to avoid an All SEC Championship, that Ohio St game might be Iowa's ticketb into the big dance).
Alabama-Iowa...Bama beats LSU next week and wins SEC Championship.
I guess it could also be Florida-Iowa, or Florida Boise St, or knowing the AP, it may even be Florida-USC...since losing to an unranked nobody and getting blown out by a questionable #10 is the same as LSU losing to the #1 Team by a sliver...
Now tell me again why a playoff isn't a good idea?

I would have taken your side on this question without the previous bloviating...:D
I still do not believe LSU is all that, or that the SEC is the strongest conference, but the playoff system is needed, as it is now, it is all too subjective, and a lot of the guys doing the voting are clueless.

Well of course The SEC is the strongest conference in football. Who else could be? The ACC? Big Ten? Certainly not the dismal PAC-10. The SEC schedule is the most grueling in college football which will put a team against more ranked opponents than any other conference...
But then there are that 37% of ALL AP Pollsters that live on the west coast. I am sure that has NOTHING to do with the ridiculous games being played in the polls.
Yes Bloviating...but backed up with Facts. One need only check the final rankings in the last 5 years.
By I digress, a playoff is needed. A playoff should be required. But, then all we would have to bellyache about is the officiating!

There have been a couple SEC officiating crews given extra vacation this year.

No doubt they deserved it! I never said the officiating was good...I said the polls were bad. The officiating will never get all the calls right...the worst sin of the SEC officiating Crews are the calls they MISS...IE, the holding NON call that gave Florida its sole touchdown in the LSU loss. It changed the whole game situation. The Florida player clearly held to get open. The officials missed that one and in a close game like that one effectively handed the Gators the win. That one NOn call is the difference between a number 1 ranked LSU and a number 9 ranked LSU. I think that may be the crux of the situation here. LSU has lost 1 game to the #1 ranked team in the nation, largely on a bad non-call. This makes us ranked behind so many teams that could not compete with many in the SEC. LSU should be no worse than 6th.
I think Boise St.' current rank is valid, but I do not see them going any higher. Their schedule is just too weak.

SEC officiating is Horrible. Last weeks no interception call in spite of irrefutable video evidence, the Spearing to the head of Tolliver by La Tech, it is atrocious. Every defensive player in the NCAA see now that they can do whatever they want to LSU and the Refs are not going to call it. How long will the NCAA Gods allow this to go one before someone says Whoa. I am now in favor of a congressional witch hunt into racketeering in the SEC.

I have long ago quit blaming officiating on a single call for the reason or not the reason for a win or a loss. Either team had plenty of opportunities else where in the 4 quarters to proof they were best. Most that complain of a single call often overlook the rest of the game.
In the end good teams find a way to win and many losers find a way to lose or blame it on something.
Never hear many say "" if only we had completed that pass we dropped in the first quarter"" . Much easier to easy to blame an official in the fourth quarter.

Although I agree with you when it comes to leaving a game in the hands of the officials, but when you have 3 teams SO close in Skill and quality of players as Florida, Alabama, and LSU, it is inevitable that these games are going to be nail biter close and when they are, it is imperative that the officials get the calls right...especially when there is irrefutable video evidence! It is unacceptable to have the officials determining who wins and loses. That defeats the purpose of playing the game, in fact it demeans the sport altogether.

Guess we know the answer to this question now, not only did the SEC lose, but your LSU Tigers were eaten by the Big Tens Nittany Lions from Penn State!!!

I guess facts change, and one only need to look back to this game next year...:D....Happy New Year...
