After the death of both Cookie and Huggies, we needed to get more hens to balance out the roosters. We got a Dominique,( Scrambles), a black hen mix with a red-brown undercoat, (Blanca). Very beautiful. And we got Cloak, a game hen mix with gold highlights, quite lovely. Well, I went off to play practice, and when I came home, Mark told me Cloak was missing. It was too late and too cold to go out looking for her, but I was sure she'd be back in the morning. Around feeding time the next day, she still hadn't shown up. I went out later on, and there she was. So I thought everything was okay. After my experience with Huggies, I didn't want to lose track of any of them. Then I went out to shut the coop for the night, and she was gone again. I got the dog and searched every inch of our place. She was just gone. Well, this nagged at me, I was just starting to like her , and now it was getting cold and dark. I went out again, and peered into the shed. The flood lights came on. I looked up, and there she is, on a ceiling beam. Crap! I get a long stick and try to pry her off. She leaped off and flew across the shed to land on top of the coop. With the long stick, I'm blindly trying to get her off of that. By now, the other chickens are sqwaking, cheering her on. She flew quite gracefully to the ground, and promptly found someplace to hide. So now I'm chasing her all over the shed. She hid under the work bench, I crept up, and grabbed her. She's flapping and kicking wildly. I put her in the coop and head back inside. These chickens are driving ME loco!
