My rooster, Rocky, who was the first ever rooster I ever had, was evidently stepped on by a goat about two months ago....he was badly injured with his chest almost ripped open...

It wasn't a wound like when another animal attacks....and he was safely in the goat shed....well, as least safe from most predators...

I doctored him best I could and put him in a cage in the floor of the bunny barn. He could scoot around to his feed and water and seemed content. On pretty days I put the cage outside in the sunshine. It is a cage the same size as my rabbit hutches..

Other chickens come and go and stop and "talk" with him and he "talks" back.

He hasn't seemed like he was in any pain and seemed to be recooperating, even standing for limited amounts of time...

Since he was my first ever rooster (and is now about four years old) I didn't have the heart to put him down and since he seemed to not be in any pain, I just made sure he had plenty of food and water...

Two days ago he seemed really sick and would just roll over and couldn't get back up....He didn't seem any better this morning so I went back to the bunny barn about mid-afternoon, figuring I'd bury him before it got good dark...

Well, He was half-sitting up, eating and drinking like a pig, and looking around with his eyes all alert...

This is some tough bird! As long as he seems comfortable I'm going to just feed him and water him.
