Been casting .357 168gr, gas checks.
Just for grins I weighed up a bunch on the RCBS Load Master Scale.
Weights are: in grains.
162.5
163.5
162.5
163.5
163.0
163.6
164.5
163.6
163.8
164.6
These have been lubed and sized, so I supposed that I should have weighed them before I did that, but seem pretty close?

Any one else compare their bullets?
Gonna weigh a bunch of factory .168gr Hollow points jast to see how close they are.

Are all of those from a single cavity mould? The bigger the mould, the harder it is to keep the weight of the bullets even.

A cooler mould will throw bullets of a different weight and diameter than a hot mould, so that comes into play too.

I checked a handfull of the store-bought Sierra bullets for the .45Colt and they seem to vary a little over 1 grain (from 199.4 to 200.5) and I got two that were over 201 grain. So, the factory boys do it, too.

They are from a Lee Alum 6 cavity mold, but there were two different heats of wheel weights metal.
Like I said, I should have weighed them before lubing and sizing.

HI Hunter
That's only 1.3% variation. You can analyze your bullets to death, but the real test is to go out and shoot them. Bet you'll get a nice group with them.

Yeah I know, just curious (I get curious a lot) as to what is happening, especially using a mix of wheel weights.
Most guns shoot better than I do,and as I don't shoot matches, I would be shooting them anyway.

I do find it interesting the lengths that you could take, judging by the amount of gear available, hardness testers, thermometers, alloy materials, etc.

Did score a bag of .357 brass, and 1k small pistol primers last nite, so gonna stoke some and out to my range.
