Here is a delicious dessert that is very easy to make and will help use up those couple of apples laying on the counter.
1 cup sugar
1/3 cup butter
1 egg, beaten
1 cup of milk
1 1/2 cup flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 1/2 cups sliced apples
1/2 cup of nuts
* I add raisins instead of the nuts
Cream sugar and butter. Stir in beaten egg and blend well. Add milk. In seperate bowl sift dry ingredients and add gradually to liquid mixture, mixing well after each addition. Fold in apples and nuts. Pour batter into greased square baking pan and bake in 350 degrees oven for 35 minutes. Sprinkle top with 3/4 cup brown sugar and dot with butter. Return to oven and bake 5 to 10 minutes longer until butter is melted. Serve warm.
Great with ice cream or a big scoop of whip topping!!!!:yes4:

When a recipe calls for you to "cream the butter and sugar" what it is telling you to do is to squish around some softened butter then mix in the sugar called for in the recipe and kind of mix/beat it until its light and fluffy. Then you can go on to the next step in the recipe.

You can use any type apple that is good for baking. I made mine with the apples that I purchase for applesauce (which was a blend of several different types).

Hi, made it for my family and they loved it! I added raisins and walnuts as we like both. I tried to cream the sugar with unmelted butter, which created a mess when I added the milk. I used a mixer and ended up with a very dense cake. Is this normal or did I whip up the glueten in it?
I am gonna try it with a dash of nutmeg and pecans next time. Thank you for sharing!

I just found this recipe and am going to try it, too. It looks wonderful!
Just a suggestion... when you cream butter and sugar together, the butter should be at room temperature and thus soft. Using a really stiff wire whisk is good for creaming butter and sugar together. A large fork will also work. And when mixing the milk (or eggs or anything else liquid) into the creamed butter/sugar mixture, just add a little milk at first and quickly stir, then add a little more and stir again, doing this a few times until you incorporate all the milk. You don't want to stir or whip excessively, though.
A lot of 'pudding cake' recipes do come out kind of dense. I had a cherry-vanilla pudding cake recipe I made once and it was rather dense but very good.
