I thought some of you might find this interesting and possibly something you could use.

Looks pretty neat and easy to build. I don't know if i would use this for drinking water. The sand would filter out particulate matter but I'm not sure about any bacteria. This is kinda like the sand filter that used to be used with pools before they all went to D/E. Maybe a little bleach or chlorine to kill any nasties. I think i have everything to bold it in the shop. Always by fittings in bulk :)

They stole my plans! LOL Actually, in 1999, I built a similar filter. They usually use silica sand. I bought mine at one of the large hardware stores in 50 pound(?) bags.
I got hold of a 12" piece of PVC about 5' long. I then ordered caps for both ends. I made perforated pvc to go in the bottom with a filter to keep sand out of the pvc. It had the inlet at the top and the outlet at the bottom.
This was when I was treating pond water for the house. After the sand filter, it went through a couple other filters, one being a carbon filter. Then it was chlorinated and filtered again. Worked fairly well. I got the idea from a former neighbor that had a similar set up.
