Well i had to leave the farm cause my work called me away. My girlfriend and i work archaeology jobs and the only one ive been able to find is all the way in Craig Colorado. Long way from southern ohio.
Its a lot different out here buts its not too bad. Job goes till july then back home to the garden. Parents said they would look after it till i got back. They get loads of food from my gardens anyway.
Im not really used to this much open space neither. I like being enclosed by trees and plants. But the mountains are cool. Havent spent much time at all in the rockies but when my break comes up i will. Workin a 21 day stretch then 6 days off then 8 days back on.
Any people from colorado out there know some nice places to visit?

HI Adventure - your are right down the road from steamboat springs, then if you keep going east you can drop down into the kremmling area which is on the colorado river. The gore range is near there as well. a little further east and south is some great fishing at hot sulphur springs. There's great hiking all around that area too - helps to have a good map. If you need more info feel free to pm me - I have a pretty good CO atlas and could get you started in the right direction.

As above, Steamboat is just East of you – take the gondola to the top of the mountain and check out Steamboat lake, or go South and check out Glenwood Springs if you like the hot springs and all, or keep going East from Steamboat and then South on 9 to Silverdale, Dillon, Breckenridge, Copper mountain, Loveland - Loveland pass is quite a site, but be ready for snow any time of year there. On the 4th, Dillon does fireworks over the reservoir – many times I’ve seen the smoke from the fireworks make it snow – yes on the 4th of July. If you like to fish, the Blue River in Silverdale is one of the best trout rivers in the US, however it is catch and release. Keep on going through Breck up over Hoosier pass, and you come to a somewhat of a novelty – “South Park” – but the guys who write the show, and the people they have on the show –yep there are real people, were from Evergreen, not South Park. Of course there is Vail and Aspen if you’re into that sort of thing – never really tripped my trigger though. Take I-70 West towards Vail from Dillon and just before Copper Mountain, take hwy 91 South towards Leadville, a few miles up the road, a bit before the Climax mine you’ll come up on a lake with a snow capped mountain in the back that makes a perfect reflection in the lake, I’ve read that it’s the most photographed place in Colorado – I’ve seen it on almost every calendar of Colorado. Keep going to Leadville, the city (don’t know why they call it a city, its pretty small), is the highest city in North America – and as the joke goes, some of the women even have two teeth left.
On the other end, Grand Junction is a nice change, orchards, larger town etc. It might take some time to get use to the kind of scenery from what you’re use to, but when you get to know the place, there are some real spectacular sites to visit.
I spent many years living and working in the area, and if you want more let me know.

I spent a bunch of time in the Ralins, Baggs, Saratoga, Encampment area on the Wyoming side of that area.
I thought it was pretty good country to be in.
Enjoy

We are in North Eastern Colorado but own 40 acres about 20 miles north of Craig. We go up quite frequently
in the summer and in the fall for Elk and Deer hunting.
It's our home any from and hopefully soon to be home!
If you like hunting and fishing your in a great area. If fact were heading back up there on the 6th. The only problem is is trying to grow a garden at 8500 feet!

You might want to take your girlfriend down to Glenwood springs for a time in the hot springs pool, and a night in the Hotel Colorado. It is a easy drive from Craig, down through Meeker to I-70. There are lots of beautiful areas around you, take some time to explore.

Probably opt to camp- cant afford much hotel stays. Well be heading to Dinosaur Natl monument this break though and maybe well drive down and check out Glenwood.
