Hey Still,
You are not alone!!!!!!
We are in Carroll County. Sounds like you may be in Lake or Obion? I lived in Lake for a while and Weakley also before buying property in Carroll.

Hi Spike.
We live in Obion county. Was born and grew up in Decatur county. At least you are moving a little further from the New Madrid fault line. Think we are sitting almost on top of it. :P

Hey Still,
Feeling the ground move under your feet is a real disturbing experience. LOL
I grew up in north Miss. playing on the Mississippi river. I really enjoy the river, but thought it would be good to put a bit if distance between the homestead and the New Madrid area.
Do you remember, in I think it was 1990, when there was a guy predicting a major earthquake on the New Madrid fault. I was working on remodeling the Federal building in Memphis at that time, and while I do hold much faith in most predictions, it still made everyone a bit nervous. Glad it did not happen at that time. LOL

Remember that prediction well. Think everyone here had a "pre-picked" piece of equipment to roll or crawl under. Ha.
I bought key-ring flashlights for both step-kids to keep on them. And was also glad it was a non-occurance.....but am still prepping for it.....
Lots of hills-and-hollers here from the last one..... :P

I'm a little bit further east than Washington. I'm not enjoying this freezing weather but at least it's not as cold as our northern neighbors!

Hi all,
Got electricity back on Thursday afternoon about 4:30. We were down 44 hours. Were very lucky....some have been getting power back through this week. Friends and co-workers in Kentucky are gonna have to wait till March :o
Linemen are coming in from all over the country...Oklahoma, Georgia, and from all points south in our state of TN.
Trees, power poles, and lines are everywhere. Last count I heard was 1100 poles in this county and 2000-2500 in three KY counties.....all on the ground.....
People are coming from KY, IL, and MO.....they are out of gas, food, water, and short on patience. Feel so sorry for them.
And the one thought running through my mind and a hot topic of discussion at work is, "What if this had been the big earthquake we are expecting?"
Stay safe all and hope KY friends will be back soon.

Hello all,
I'm in North-West Alabama, not far from the Tennessee line. Grew up in Memphis, then Perry County TN. Hope the weather doesn't get too intolerable further north. We are just under a winter watch here. Expecting sleet, freezing rain and snow. But hopefully not much if any. Take care, Shannon

Hi all,
we're currently living in Germany, but we want to move back to the States within the next year. We have looked around, trying to find a nice place to live, and were wondering if Giles county, and Pulaski especially is one of these places.
Any input is appreciated!
Thanks

We looked in Giles county at some property about 5 years or more. There was stuff out there, don't know what property prices are doing now. Pulaski is a pretty good sized town - a number of big box stores. They seem to get more rain than we do. Like everyone else, the economy is not doing that well there compared to recent years, but you have access to the I-65 corridor if you have to commute to work. Nashville might be too far, but Huntsville is just down the road.
Regards,
Pat

Thanks for your reply! It's really hard to figure out where you want to live when you're 5000 miles away.

Native of West Tenn, moved to Mid Tenn as a child. Lived in Henderson, Carroll, Obion, Decatur, and Rutherford Counties. Now spending winters in Wilson County, girlfriend lives in Lewis County. If it's west of the plateau, I'm probably familiar with it. It's gotten big and crowded over the years, but it's still home.
