Can anyone give me a source for washing soda? I read through the threads and realize that I can't use baking soda. I have seen washing soda at Walmart here but it has not been recently.
Looked there and at the grocery store....finally found the Fels Naptha at Rural King in a nearby town, but no washing soda. Borax is plentiful....no problem there.
I am wanting to learn to make laundry detergent, soap and other soaps.....HALP..... lol

You can try soapsgonebuy.com. I've never ordered from them so I cant vouch for them but they seem to have the stuff your looking for.

Thank you, neparose. This looks very useful....i bookmarked the site.
They also had the Fels Naptha soap cheaper than what I paid for it.

Hey still, I have ordered from soapsgonebuy and the service is good. When I ordered Fels Naptha from them it arrived in a brown envelope. Its cheaper to mail it that way if you order less than I think 6 bars. It usually arrives at your door in a few days. Hope this helps.
Have a great day!

I by mine at a local iga store, if you have a smaller grocery store near you, you can request it to be stocked and i bet they will for you. wal mart will not, atleast mine will not.

I ordered the soda and fels soap from soapsgb and got good service. The soda is very heavy so the shipping wasn't too good. Since than I have found the washing soda at Kroger but can't find the soap anywhere so I will have to order it again.
I have a front load washer and the homemade soap, dry, did not dissolve even in hot water. The next time I make it I am going to try the melted method.

The chemical name for Washing Soda is sodium carbonate. This exact same chemical can be found in the pool section of your local store. The brand name is "Chem Plus." hth

Or soda ash from the pool supply place. I got mine in bulk, cheaper. They put it in a plastic bag, no container. And I use octagon soap of instead Fels Naptha easer to find in stores. I make the liquid. We like it a
lot.

I make my bath soap, but I don't want to waste it on laundry. I just use whatever soap I was able to get for free or close to it. I have used Ivory, Irish Spring, and most recently Dial Basic. I will have to look for soda ash in the store. Do you get it specifically at a pool supply store, or can you get it at Wal-Mart or Home Depot?

soda ash is the same as washing soda or sodium carbonate if I'm not mistaken. And the only place that I found it was at the pool supply place. To make my laundry soap I use octagon bar soap (food lion), Soda ash, Borax (food lion) I done a Google search for a recipe to make it.

I have not been able to find the Octagon soap but I did stumble on to the Fels in Kroger. I have looked and called everywhere locally but as I was meandering down the no-brand isle in Kroger, there it was.
I found the Washing soda there but it was on the laundry isle so that was where I looked for the laundry soap. Who woulda thunk {:-o.

I was able to buy the washing soda and fels naptha on ebay. Of course shipping is high so I bought a case of each. I figured gas is $3.16 a gallon so I was just as well off to order the ingredients for 10 yr supply instead of driving around to different stores to find the stuff I needed. I haven't seen or used the Octagon soap but I will keep an eye out for it now since everyone here seems to like it. Thanks for all the recipes and knowledge you all share. It is appreciated

I finally saw some in a locally owned hardware store after looking for several months.

I found it at Kroger in a neighboring town. Went for a long dry spell and couldn't find it anywhere around here. Several years ago, it just disappeared from several places that routinely kept it in stock. Then, I heard Kroger carried it. Finally, a new shopping center was built and it included a Kroger!!
Every time I go there, I pick up a few more boxes for the stash.
Hope this helps.
