Put in a pretty good size order of books here about three weeks ago and have gotten all of them but the new canning book by Jackie. Just wondering how long of a back order there is on this book and when i should be expecting to receive it.
If I have posted this in the wrong section or should have PM'ed a mod directly about the issue please let me know; and if so my apologies for putting it here in the open forums.

I think you might get that answer better from an editor or the magazine itself not the forum. The folks who use the forum aren't working at the magazine.

I'm looking to get her new book too. She is such a wealth of knowledge. Just call the magazine office, you can get the number here on the website. Really nice folks to deal with and always helpful.

Well I am kind of glad you posted that question now. I am going to go over to the book store here and see about getting her book! I didn't know she had a new one out.

I really like my copy.
She gives her thoughts on how to grow a variety of foods--including fruits and veggies and also on how to raise various meat animals. She then has canning recipes and very easy to understand directions for all the good food you grow or raise--also butchering instructions. Then she has a section of pretty good recipes for meals in a jar. The only thing I felt would have made it more helpful is if she had said how much a recipe would yield-- say x amount of pints or quarts so you'd know how many jars to get ready. Someone asked her about that on her blog and she said it was because it can vary, but that she would try to include that in any new editions in the future. I'm sure you can make a pretty good guess how many jars to prepare-- just have an extra one or two nearby in case you get more than you thought.
I liked her pressure canning directions much better than the ones I've seen in Ball blue book or that came with my last couple of canners.
Also--her recipes are very practical. I could easily envision using most of them in my own kitchen. Nothing really all that fancy, just good food.

Hi Mary, I too have thoroughly enjoyed her book. This was my first year to can meat of any kind and I really appreciated her in depth descriptive recipes. I, like you, also wish she had given information on how much each recipe would yield. I really had no idea being new to canning venison, chicken, and beef. I still have not canned pork, and I'm not sure I will. We are not big pork eaters anyway (other than bacon!!)
I am real glad a purchased her book. I also purchased "Starting Over".
Like the cookbook better!!

Personally I very much enjoyed Starting Over.
Maybe because I feel like our life here in SC is a bit of a 'do over'.
I like that she lets you know as hard as things may be you can not only go on but get a new shot at things.
I'm happy to know from her blog too that she now has a new companion in her life and her home has truly come a long ways. Since we're working on our home too its good see her progress.

That is the only thing my daughter asked for this Christmas. I think she was really happy with it. Though, I need to go and visit her and borrow the book to see what is actually in it. :) I wrapped it so quickly that I didn't get a chance to check it out.
