But they are so cute........which news anchor is going to suggest relocation rather than a bullet? Too bad the fur market isn't where it was a few years ago, they probably wouldn't be terrorizing anyone.

Yep, people need to learn how to handle them. It's just in their nature. The old gal has probably been feeding them and they've started pushing her around like they do each other. They fight over food as all wild and some not so wild animals do. When they threaten you, just unload on them and they learn their place.

Wild animals are just about not afraid of people any more. Part is because God said He'd remove that fear, and another reason is because starting with the Indians, man put fear into them with whatever weapon they had. Later little boys with sling shots did the same. None of that is going on anymore.

Coon Football can sometimes be the answer.

According to her neighbors, she was NOT feeding them, actually, she was trying to get them to go away, when they turned on her. She fell down, and they bit and scratched her all over, including her head.

I prefer Coon Skeet. Less Sweat, Much More Fun. :)

That story sounds like something Alfred hitchcock would have told, scary stuff

I know some of you probably already know how vicious a coon can get, especially when cornered in a barn.

hence why its best to use the aforementioned "coon skeet" method for disposal :)

5 against 1? I sure wouldn't be running outside swinging a broom with those odds.

The wife and I are always armed when we are in the yard. She likes the 38 snubbie she got for her birthday last year.:D

I had ... note the past tense .... a budding raccoon problem.

When one large male decided to come through the screen door to confront my cat, I shot him. A very nice hit, too! But, alas, the loud noise seemed to echo through the neighborhood for hours, and upset everyone.

Mind you, the shooting happened only after several other attempts to chase him off - with his returning each time - that night. Firearms are not to be used carelessly.

My next tactic was personal confrontation with a kukri. It was enough to slap the flat side of the blade against something near the raccons to get them to go away for the night. I think they knew that the next swing was for keeps.

Not liking the risk of being bitten, I ordered a small crossbow. I cannot report on the effectiveness, as the raccoons have not returned.

RWS Diana makes a pellet rifle that is silent and deadly. It does a real nice job on coons with the power point pellets. Even way up in the trees.:D

Your really pushing your luck shooting coons with a pellet rifle. I have a few pellet rifles, including two RWS 45's that will push a pellet 1,000 fps. Yes they will kill them with a perfect shot, but if it's not perfect, the coon will be wounded, and suffer until it dies, or worse.

You are right, mine was scoped, and I never had one walk off. I used it extensively on my trap line, as a dispatch weapon, especially if I was within earshot of homes, as a lot of checking took place in dark. No need to attract attention.

One of my RWS 45's is scoped, but i carry a 22 on my trapline. I use CB longs in it, and they are as quiet or quieter than a pellet gun, but have a LOT more power. I eliminated five coons last month alone, but they keep coming!

DMI carry a .22 on the line as well, but found it better to use the pellet rifle in close proximity to homes, most people in those homes never knew I was there, as it should be.

So i guess you haven't tried CB shorts or longs in a 22 rifle, as i already said they are "quieter" than a higher powered pellet rifle, and have a LOT more power, AND i only have to carry one gun.

My entire trapline is here on my homestead, sometimes i walk it because i enjoy being outside. That's how i got this guy,

OK, that makes sense, sometimes we get into a rythem and forget that others do things differently. I used to walk parts of my line a lot in NH, and then did a lot of it off of a snow machine. Now, here in PA, the only line where I am walking much is my water line. For land trapping, I drive from set to set in my pickup, most of the farm trapping here is done on the two tracks around the bounderies of the farms. Good thing, the bed of the truck is usually loaded with equipment. Way too much to carry, so having a couple different firearms is not a chore.

Here's another one.
State law says you cannot hunt or trap a raccoon without a permit unless it's attacking crops or domestic animals.
I guess attacking people is OK.
Stupid law.

While back I kept hearing the lids hit the alley concrete from off my metal trashcans in the middle of the night, and then every morning I had to clean up scattered garbage, until I got tired of it quick.

So that next night I went ahead and got out of bed with baseball bat in hand. I was sure it was dogs or cats. It was a real dark night no moon but I could barely see the shape of some animal in the can with its back arched up in the air digging happily in the trash; and also could see several other forms running loose on the ground around the cans, I guess scrounging up what their buddy was sending loose out the top of the can.

CATS !!! I figured for sure. So I sneak up real quiet and they dont even notice me cus theyre busy with dinner, and at the same time that I scream as loud as I can, I also smash the side of the metal can with the bat! Hah!! I figured that was that. These cats just got a heart attack and wont ever be back!!

Wrong... all of a sudden I found myself surrounded by about six huge angry COONS coming at me hissing and spitting with their backs hunched and jaws snapping and no doubt, they were coming at me, dead serious.
And when I say, I ran away, I mean I was really running!

Bottom line is this...those suckers WERE NOT AFRAID OF ME!!! Coons can be dangerous!!
