everyone want to run this past u...ok! where our property is -there is a high water table.everyone in the area talks of going 30 feet and 50 feet and have fully flowing wonderful wells.ok me and hubby slept in our meadow one nite and we could hear water flowing and sounds like it was turning off and on and no one was around ??and ?? what the heck is this?
the one neighbors over quite aways said that they had the bright idea to dig a root cellar and at 7 feet-there was too much water to keep going.
we hear that this land has a lake underneath??so are we crazy?thanks so much rae-dean

No. You're not crazy. Most underground water comes from either a spring or artesian well (think underground river) or from an aquifers (think underground lakes). So, yes, it is possible that they had water at 7'. However, in some areas like here, I have springs and can easily get water. My closest neighbor to the south is 1/2 mile. He has 80 acres and has no water.

Heck no, you're not crazy! LOL With a high water table and when the conditions are right, I'm sure you heard it.
You're fortunate that you have water that near the surface, unless you want a root cellar, that is. Speaking from experience, from that standpoint. We have a 30' bored well on the high side of our property. Even during droughts we haven't had a problem with our well. Not far from us wells go dry during periods of drought.
Neighbor just south of us had to go over 400' with a drilled well. Their flow rate is the bare miniumum to support a household. Neighbor to the north of us had to go over a 100' to get water. Tried 4 different times to bore a well there (back before the county outlawed bored wells). Finally, had to drill it to get water.
On the low side of our property the water table is about 2' on average. We have a colony of crawfish back there that build mud mounds. When the sun is right, you can look down the hole in the center of the mound and see the water and the crawfish.
If your water is pure, celebrate!!

We had a spring on our property in Wisconsin that we discovered accidentally and used when our well pump broke down for a temporary fix. The actual well however was nearly 500 ft down. Neither source was very high output so we always had to be careful not to leave a hose running or to wash too many loads of laundry in a row, had to buy water to fill our pool.
