Those are great Rae-dean! (I love your name, sounds very Southern)

I know how to crochet but have so little time outside of my quilting business that I rarely do it anymore. This is inspiring me to go inspect my yarn stash and hope the mothballs are still on duty. :D

Well Done Rae-dean. Lovely work.

My friend Marcia is amazing at crochet. She can visualize something and then sit down and make it. I want to be like Marcia...

Lion Brand yarn and Red Heart also have free knit and crochet patterns of all kind of stuff. Everyone once in awhile, I'll go purusing their sites and just download their free patterns to my computer. (Yes, I admit, I am a free pattern junkie.) I have found really cute baby toys and clothes and beautiful sweater, hoodie, handbag, hat patterns....just about anything.

I wish I knew of a knitting club here. I'd love to be a part of one.

Ditto! That is beautiful work.

Now that winter is closing in you're making me think about digging out my hooks. I'm rusty, so it'll be a while before I can get back up to speed. :)

Ok what is a good book for starting to try and do socks. I saw some kits at Michaels Crafts for making socks are they any good?

One of the better books is called "Folk Socks" by Nancy Bush. It has all the instructions you would need for beginning and more. It tells how to do different types of heels and toes. It also has several patterns with anything from the most basic to advanced.

I bought mine at the Yarn Barn in Lawrence, Kansas several years ago.

Click on Yarn Barn for their website. You can order it online from them if you can't find it locally.

I usually knit several pair each year for winter socks. Nothing store bought is as warm.

By the way, I'm assuming you are talking about knitting socks rather than crochet? Traditionlly, socks are usually knitted. House type "slippers" can be knit or crochet.

nice work rae dean.
last year I knitted 16 pairs of socks and one sweater. It can get expensive. It is so frustrating. we are raising hair sheep because you can not sell wool, but go in the hole with it, and if you want some nice wool for knitting or crocheting it costs the world.
I just do not like that red heart yarn.
Now Paul, don't tell me you also do your own spinning.
Those socks in the picture look crocheted to me. How are they wear wise? do they have a seam? We like warm socks inside our boots in winter.

LOL

I had a neighbor years ago that taught me how to spin on her wheel. They had sheep, and she kept all the wool. I almost passed out when I saw the prices of new spinning wheels, so I went back home and made my own. For the wheel, I used a bicycle wheel without the tire. I used it once and haven't since... about 12 or 13 years ago. But, I would like to.

Rae-dean, I too like your work. Those are some nice items.

I'd love to see a picture of how you built it. Do you still have it around?

Love the pointed star doily. I still have issues once in a while with one slipper ending up bigger than the other one!

I dug it out, but by the time I did, it was dark. Tomorrow, I'll dust it off and take a couple pics to post in a new thread. Keep in mind that although it may be functional, it ain't purty! LOL It was made from scrap materials.
