Very sad news.
He inspired many people to try woodworking.
I bought a lot of Porter Cable tools because of him.
At least I can watch reruns.
Thanks for the heads up.

You can probably watch shows archived on the web.

Yes, I heard that a while back. Hate to see him hang up his toolbelt on PBS. (sigh)
I've recorded as many of his shows as I can over the last couple of years. Like to watch them again, from time to time, if there's a similar project that I'm working on.
While, I still record them, when they appear on other networks, I still miss seeing the full episodes of the same ones on PBS. I keep wondering what they cut out in order to stick those all those commercials in them.

NYW still plays here where i live, on two of the 4 PBS stations broadcasted locally.. Right now he is building a whole set of kitchen cabinets over several shows.
I've watched him from the beginning, and at the time i was running my own custom furniture/cabinet shop. I would take in all the woodworking shows i could find and there weren't many back then. I remember all the mistakes he use to made in the first shows, like not building to allow for the winter to summer movement of solid wood table tops... After a couple years he got it together, and in later years he showed his first projects with cracked tops telling why they had cracked...
These days he builds some really nice things, and is very skilled in custom furniture/cabinet making.

I loved watching those shows too - but it always seemed so unfair that he had every woodworking gadget on the planet! (Seemed like.) I've experienced some serious biscuit-joiner envy watching that show!
What a great job that guy has - not many folks get that kind of opportunity.

Mine has always been his sanding equipment. Or, maybe it was his pocket hole jig, no wait, it's definitely his dovetail jig. :)
Naugh.... it's gotta be that belt sander.... I hate to sand! :(

I would love to have his dust collection system.
Never any sawdust to sweep up and the shop is clean top to bottom.
Mine is always needing swept.

you're right the 36" inch belt sander was neat but so was 3 hp, 2 hp, 1 hp and laminate trim router set he had to.

Believe or not I read the Norm was alergic to dust of any kind.

You can buy routers pretty cheap these days, and any router that pulls 15 amps, is considered a 3hp router, even though it's REALLY a 1.5hp router. Many times you can buy a router that pulls 15 amps from Amazon for around $100.00, so save up and get a few routers. :)
