We've subscribed to BHM for a little while and have finally joined the forum here. We have 5 acres, 2 cows, mama goat and baby goat and a bunch of chickens running around the yard. We are slowly building a small barn and next year hope to raise tilapia and maybe start on a greenhouse. In the world of self reliance I would rate myself as a novice in training and will more than likely be picking the brains of the more experienced folks here.

Thanks for the warm welcomes. I hope to share my struggles to turn my little plot of land into a somewhat self sufficient mini farm. I'm halfway finished with my on the cheap barn and goat house and will soon be searching for info on building a cheap greenhouse.:)

Welcome!

I would sure enjoy keeping up with your tilapia experience if you will share it with us. Would the tilapia be just for your personal use or a commercial venture?

If I lived in a warmer climate I might venture into the local commercial scene but it gets to cold in the winter for them to survive so I think we will start with a small used swimming pool and raise enough for the extended family.

I started a web site to record my efforts but progress has slowed down lately. We are having some mild weather this month so I hope to make some headway.
I know my barn construction ain’t purty but I’m going on a small budget and little experience.
