After reading about so many using fabric from clothes to make other things, I have been looking closely at denim blouses and dresses at the local Goodwill, even if they don't fit. I have gotten a couple of jumpers that are too small, but that I could open up the side seams and add fabric from something else.

Today I found a couple of blouses that have decorations (embrodery (sp), beads) on the front, but they are too small (way too small), but I could use the fronts to piece it on blouses that do fit to decorate them. (I love denim blouses, they wear well and are comfortable and save my good blouses around the house).

The local Goodwill seems a bit expensive though, 5.49 for jeans, 3.49 for blouses or mens shirts of any kind, 2.99 for t-shirts.

I'm also looking for denim to make a quilt or two. A denim quilt just seems so practical.

Unfortunately, we don't have any old clothes to use (they went down with Katrina).

Thanks for all the good ideas.

Judy

Judy - you might have better luck at St. Vinnies or Salvation Army & that sort of store. We've got an outlet here in Madison WI, where the unsold stuff goes from all of the St. Vinnies and you can get denim (or anything else) by the pound - and it's cheap. When you're looking for stuff to remake into something else, that's the way to go! I've found Goodwill to be more and more commercial, and sometimes charging as much as or more than new. If you have any second-hand stores by you, just ask what happens to the unsold stuff - they may have something similar to here!

I think there is one or two stores in town that sell cheaper than that, but I haven't been to town lately (New Orleans). Salvation Army in this area seems to be going the way of Goodwill. However, I have gotten some nice denim shirts and a dress that makes a wonderful robe from goodwill. I need to make a trip to town. The dress/robe was 5.00 and in new condition and so comfortable.
