At age 42 am I too old to switch from right-handed to left-handed shooting? I am left-handed and left eye dominant (at a distance) but was raised to shoot the opposite way. I dont really shoot all that much anymore.
Thanks for any suggestions.
We have to break a lot of troops from bad shooting habits, for young folks it is pretty easy but it might be a bit harder for you since it's likely to be deeply ingrained at your age, but it shouldn't be impossible to change. That being said, you would have to put a good bit of time and ammo into it to reprogram your body/muscles and be proficient.

I would recommend professional training, preferably private lessons, from a reputable school before you do anything else. Have someone good put you on the right path, or else all your practice will be nothing but reinforcing bad habits.
I'm a lefty and shoot with either hand/eye. I started by taking an empty firearm fixing my feet in the proper position and my eye on the target and raising the weapon to eye level and onto the target. After a while it becomes second nature. I can't tell the difference with a pistol and the rifle feels only very slightly awkward, and I'm slower with the long arm.
One of my best friends is a lefty and trained himself in a few weeks to shoot reasonably well right handed. Now, he only shoots right handed.

I'm a lefty but growin up had to use the old mans rem mod 11 auto, didnt take to many times of gettin whacked with shell casins to learn to shoot right handed. Soon as I got my first shotgun, ithaca mod 37 with bottom ejection, went right back to shootin lefty with it.
Being a lefty I'm thinking with alittle practice it'll come to you natural in no time.

Was thinking of taking the missus to an Appleseed event and basically just starting from scratch as a lefty. I dont think my wife has any experience at all so it would be good for the both of us. Use my Marlin 60 and save some money. Anyone been to one?

Country Mike,
I've been to a few...dozen. The Ohio Appleseed crew is top notch, and you both should have a great time. If you have any questions, just holler and I will get an answer for you.
