My baby girls has to have surgery to remove tonsils and adnoids sp? then put tubes in her ears. We have really struggled with this decision but the Dr.said she only had a opening the size of a straw in her throat and it was hurting her breathing. We take her in this Wed. Thank you for your prayers in advance. Ken

Our youngest son had a T/A and ear tubes when he was only 2. It was very easy for him, just pain for the first 12-15 hrs. He was in and out of the hospital within 3 hrs. I think the T/A was the best thing that ever happened to him, but the tubes were a waste. They fell out within a few weeks.
Try not to worry too much. And make sure she starts to eat/drink even if she fusses about it. They say the kids that end up with problems are the ones who won't start to eat. Our son was eating ice chips and jello that evening after the surgery. He was fine within a couple of days. And it solved all the ear infections and sore throats. He was 2.
I will pray for your baby. But be encouraged, it really wasn't a bad surgery at all. We had 2 boys go through it, one at age 2 and the other at age 11. Both had a very easy recovery in a short time.

Prayers sent.
Doctors have almost stopped removing T/A.
My son had his removed after he went into the Air Force.

I'll remember your child. But, it should be a walk in the park.

My little brother and I were 11 and 9 when we had our tonsils out, on the same day. He also had his adenoids removed.

I remember how painful it was to try and eat anything.... even ice cream.

My mother would make cream gravy, and then she would remove the crust from the bread and tear the bread into very small pieces and put it in a bowl of gravy. That was the only thing I would eat at first. I never will forget that. I still like my bread and gravy.

Your child will be fine.

I think the T/A was the best thing that ever happened to him...

Agreed. My daughter had the same thing. She would get tonsillitis frequently and had restrictive breathing and our doctor used the same straw comparison. It did wonders for her.

We will keep her in our thoughts and prayers.

Thank you all so much we have her home and she is doing great. I must say we have already seen an improvement in her speech, we were concerned that she was going to have a speech problem and we all know how cruel kids can be to other kids. But just hours after the surgery she has been saying her big brother's name (Rhett) yesterday she would say (Wet). Thank you all God is Great. Ken

My oldest son, now 27, had tubes in his ears when he was 3. The trend then was against doing tonsils and adenoids.

he has struggled with sleep apnea for his whole life.

It is so severe it has already at his young age bothered his heart some. i think it is also partly responsible for his weight getting too high in recent years.

he wakes up many many times and has to sleep with a cpap machine.

The doctors want to remove his tonsils now and adenoids, as well as trim his tongue and uvula. Unfortunately right now he can't afford the surgery!

It is very important to have enough space for proper breathing. You're doing your little one a big favor and it will turn out ok--you'll see. :heart_blue1:

Glad to hear she is home and doing well.
That should take care of things and she will be healthier.
It is much easier on younger kids.
When they get older it is more difficult on them.

.......as well as trim his tongue and uvula.

They DO that?

That just sounds barbaric! ~~shudder~~
