View Full Version : Dog tags and hearing loss
I was told by my vet that putting more than one dog tag on the collar is not good for the dogs hearing. when the dog shakes their head and they rattle near the ears this is bad. the vet said that I should ask for the type of tag that slides onto the collar rather than the style that hangs from it.
I spoke to the town clerk and she said they do not make that style anymore. I explained about what the vet said and the town clerk got angry and said too bad.
Does anyone on here recieve the slide on tags when they register their dog?
What I have done in the meantime is I have put the tags in the rubber colored key covers so they do not rattle in the dogs ears.

That's interesting...I've never heard that before, about the noise of the tags. You must have a compassionate vet! Sorry, I've never heard of the slide on tags. I'm assuming you are talking about the rabies tag?
We have both license tags and rabies tags.

We have several dogs, so I keep a binder full of medical records on each of them along with their registration papers and rabies certificates. I don't put the tags on collars. I keep them in the plastic bag taped to their record in my notebook. I just put each different dog's papers and records in a plastic sheet protector and tape the tag in the little plastic bag to it. I also keep all the sales contracts and similar things in that binder.
All my dogs are chipped, so that might be safer if they have ID other than the tag. Plus all my dogs only wear the invisible fence collars rather than a regular collar, so a tag wouldn't really work on that.
But if you just keep the tags off the collars in a separate location, you might not have to worry about hearing. Your dogs can be chipped or tattooed for ID.
We are required by law to put them on the dog and no animal will be 'chipped' on my land.
