Quite a few of us spent a major part of our life waiting and preparing for the Ruskies tanks to come across the "line" in Germany.

The wall came down on this day 20 years ago Thanks to Ronald Reagan.

Ahh, the good old days of chassing SMLM vehicles in our 1984 police interceptor equipped LTD and reading the monthly Soviet Threat Analysis Report. Call me old-fashioned but I liked knowing who my enemy was.

I really miss Reagan. I ask myself often, WWRD? What Would Reagan Do?

Why the Berlin Wall Came Down: Reagan's Role, Diplomacy - TIME
http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1933194,00.html?artId=1933194?contType=arti cle?chn=us

[quoted from above article]
"And yet 20 years later, Reagan's role in bringing about the fall of the Berlin Wall and the peaceful end of the Cold War remains exaggerated, manipulated and misunderstood. To many of his conservative admirers, the challenge to Gorbachev in Berlin epitomized the toughness that made Reagan great: by refusing to compromise his core principles, he defeated communism and won the Cold War. But the truth is that Reagan was more adaptable, politically shrewd and open to compromise than either his champions or his critics prefer to admit."

In actuality it would seem that his 'presence on the scene' neither dictated the felling of the Wall nor hastened it.

Much the same as the returning/releasing the Iran hostages--brokered by the Carter Admin but for whatever their reasoning--not carried out until Reagan took office.
Most likely their attempt at gaining favor with the new incoming regime and not something Reagan actually worked for as was the case above of the Felling of the Berlin Wall.

As it is though in politics--

right place at the right time

[can be said of life also]

jus sayin.............
