I have a cat who is absolutely Psycho! She is the midst of her second litter of kittens. On both occasions, this litter and the last, she has chosen to start birthing on my dang lap. Why? I do not even like cats. I see them as necessary Livestock to control Pests. Dang Cat.

Oh admit it. You love the kitty. ;D If you didn't like her, she would be out in the yard and not on your lap getting loved on while she is birthing. I'm not a cat person but I love other peoples kittens.

In my experience all cats are psychotic.
And they are particularly drawn to people who sincerely do not like them or are emphatically afraid of them. It is their whole - superiority complex thing. They KNOW they are better than you, and for her to have her babies in your lap is like a dog P'ing on your leg - "Haha, look what I can do to you!" No matter how much ou feel the need to boot them across the room, they and you know that you can't because then everyone else will think that you are mean and awful to the poor little kitty who is trying to show her love.
I'm a cat person and so is DH, yet we know this from the way our cats have always treated others. If you LOVE cats they turn up their nose at you, won't come to you, etc. If you HATE them they do the power thing on you. If you 'explain' to them that they have a job to do (rodents, snakes, etc) and don't treat them any better than any other employee, they will behave. Sorta like dealing with a French waiter - the ruder you are the more they respect you. To a cat it is all about respect. But don't ever expect them to think you are their superior - equal, maybe, but never the superior! ;D
