All I have to say out there to you people is to have your cats tested and vaccinated ASAP.
My Hubby and I took on two "special needs" kitties. The first one 3 years ago, the second one 2 years ago, because they were feline leukemia positive, in the pound and no hope for a life other than us. They were hours from being put down even though they did not have the disease, but carried it. Now our precious China has tumors in her lymph glands of the groin at only 4 years of age and it is only a matter of time.
Chester, her "brother" knows. He has become the VELCRO KITTY to momma.
My husband keeps reminding me that every day we have given them is a gift, but I keep thinking that if someone had been the responsible pet parent that they should have been, we would not be facing this.
Please don't think that they are just cats, they will survive. You buy shots, frontline and heartworm medication for your dogs don't you? Give those hardworking farm cats the same chance at life. Get their shots, have them spayed or neutered, and cherish them as a part of your life.
