Our cat, Max, is (I think) 15 years old. He's been looking a bit boney the past year or so but otherwise he's always had perfect health.

Well, yesterday I noticed his eyes were running, quite a bit. I wiped it off for him and didn't think much of it. I didn't look at his actual eyes too closely.

But this morning when I got up, I was shocked to see that both of his eyes look cloudy and bloody (sort of a brownish cloudiness, not whitish). He still appears to be able to see to get around the house, , but I can't imagine he can see well as the cloudy area covers most of his eyes. Both eyes are still running, and now it looks a bit bloody too.

What could be causing this? His eyes looked perfectly fine up till now--cataracts can't come up so suddenly can they?

I am really worried about him now. We do NOT have the money to take him to the vet. :(

Well his eyes still look pretty scary this morning. We're putting some Polysporin drops in--let's hope that helps. I am not too hopeful though. After poking around online, I think it's something called Feline Uveitis, which is apparently a condition which is a sign of something worse, possibly evev cancer. :(

I have a feral cat that we took in because it was starving to death and he came with very bad eyes. His will be an ongoing thing.

I treat him with Dexamethasone/Polyb/neo Ointment. I get charged $18.60 a tube. It sure works wonders.

For steroid-responsive inflammatory ocular conditions for which a corticosteroid is indicated and where bacterial infection or a risk of bacterial ocular infection exists.

Call your Vet and see if he won't let you get a tube of this.

Try TERRAMYCIN. You do not need a prescription for it. Your vet should readily give it to you. If not, order it from Agri-Med or Pet-Meds.
My 18 yr old has been boney for 2 yrs now and her eyes are the same way. You will notice a drastic difference after just one day.
It's an ointment. I put it in my cats eyes twice a week and that keeps them clear. You may want to put it in your cats eyes everyday for the first 3-4 days, regardless of how much better they look after the first day.

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks for the responses. I did not take him to the vet. I bought some Polysporin eye drops for $11.00, and after using them for about 5 days his eyes were totally clear. I'm very relieved that we did not have to take him to the vet.

I had a cat with the same symptoms, turned out she had a form of herpes. I guess its really common in cats and they often get it from their mother at birth. It doesnt manifest until later years, but the eye drops helped relieve it. maybe something to look into.

I have put colloidal silver in dogs eyes with good results.

Try TERRAMYCIN.
Let me know how it goes.
We use this for our cats a lot.
Buy it at the local farm supply store.
It was $14 a tube and it took care of the problems fast.
Used it 2 times a day and they were better after1 day.
Kept going for 5 days.
Good luck
