I have 3 children, 19, 18 and almost 16. (girl boy girl)

I would like to purchase a good multipurpose knife for each child.

What would you recommend?

Thanks
Laura

Swiss Army knife. Wenger or Victorinox. I prefer Vic, had three over the past fifteen years and have used them for everything. Repairing vehicles, guns, field dressing deer (forgot hunting knife) general cutting, splinter removal, popcorn hull in gum, wince corks, screws, literally everything. HIGHLY recommended.
OR a USA made Buck Stockman with the black handles, very classic, very high quality. DO NOT GO FOR CHINA Buck knives, steel is not the same, looked at some a while ago while Xmas shopping. I can look at the steel and tell the difference before even looking at them.

Definately Swiss Army Knife. You can even find some multipurpose (cheap) knives at dollar stores now too. Plus you can get those small LED keychain lights. I got some for the boys for Christmas.

I don't know the budget or the lifestyle but one year I bought Leatherman Micra's for everyone. They're small, have a penknife, nail file and real decent scissors (be sure to to tell them not to run with the scissors!).

I had their names engraved on each knife. They were very well received and small enough to be carried often.

I would go with a leatherman if its in the budget both my boys 11/12 along with myself have one be sure you get the one with the knife blade they offer a new one with no knife, We got ours as a gift set they came with a lock back small knife and sheaths.

I'd go with an entry level Swiss Army knife (Victorinox) or a Leatherman Squirt P4.

One thing to consider is what use will they get? Only carry when camping, or carry everyday?
I'd vote for the Victorinox or Wnger Swiss Army Knife, some small but useful model such as the Hiker or Adventurer.
Another good tool would be some model of either Leatherman or Gerber multi-tool. They are durable, useful and not too expensive.
Go to a quality knife outlet, Say REI or Cabela's, and let them look at what's available and choose what they want.

I noticed in the Dicks Sporting Goods sale paper they have Victorinox 'Hiker' model Swiss army knives in a set with a smaller single blade pocket knife for 20$. Excellent quality and a GREAT price to be certain. The Hiker has the woodsaw, can/bottle opener, big drop/little drop, cork screw etc.
I think I'm going to grab a couple of them myself for presents, as well as maybe one for ME!
I would seriously stay away from the cheap knock offs that are out there, the Chinese and Taiwanese, they are made of poor metal and most of the time will break, or simply fail to perform whatsoever.
