We had to have our boxer/pit put down on Saturday. He had medical problems that were never going to get better and he was in a lot of pain. Buster was one of the sweetest dogs I've ever owned. No matter that it was in Buster's best interest, it still hurts really bad. :'(
I just wanted to let out some grief, it's hard to hold it in.
Thanks for listening.

I think long after Wolfey is gone I'll still be say'n "Huh Wolfey" when I'm think'n bout stuph.. she'll always be with me.. I can't take your hurt away, but yuh know how a little child would just sit down by his buddy with a little arm around em? It's like that. I'm sorry about Buster...

Well, it's been 5 days now and I'm beginning the "acceptance" stage of grief. It was the best thing we could do for Buster, and wanting to keep him any longer was just selfishness on my part. He was a young stray when he wandered into the place I work, and probably had problems at that time. We did give him a year and a half of happiness at least. $1500 worth of surgery didn't really solve the problem, but we tried. That's a lot of cash for us, I work on a loading dock, and the wife is a homemaker. But I'm not complaining, I wish it would have fixed him.
We still have 4 other dogs, and three horses - each one a rescue. The dogs came to us from the streets (why do people think it's ok to dump pets out in the country?), the horses were saved from slaughter.
God gives each of His children burdens to carry. Mine is an undying compassion for struggling animals. It's a burden I don't mind carrying.

RPD I've done that with both dogs and cats and believe me, it doesn't get any easier no matter how many times you do it. They are family and I personally always feel like I've failed them no matter what I did to try and help them.

Rice Paddy Daddy, God bless you, my friend. :'( I grieve with you and I understand. To the depths of my being, I understand.
That young dog wandered into your life, alone and afraid and rejected, and you saved him. You gave him the best life any dog on earth could ever have. And you loved him enough to say good-bye, even though it hurt you so.
That's all we can do. None of us knows how long our beloved feathered and furry friends are going to be with us. But we love them unconditionally for the time they *are* with us and give them everything we have, including our hearts. They can feel our love and our compassion and they are grateful.
Without you, that dog would have suffered horribly, alone and unloved. But because of you he grew to know what human kindness was and what it meant to see the best side of humanity... a humanity that hadn't treated him very well before he met you.
My thanks to you, for making this planet a MUCH better place for the animals.

I'm so sorry. I know there are no words strong enough to provide real comfort at your loss. So many of us have felt it, and I am sure we each feel for you.

RPD,
I am so sorry for your loss. I know the terrible grief that you are feeling. We lost two dog's this last year, one being 15 years old and we still aren't over it yet. It's gotten a bit easier, but they sure leave paw prints all over your heart.
I keep thinking that we should get another couple of dog's, but I don't know if DH and I are quite ready. We will eventually adopt from a shelter, I know there are ones just waiting to be loved and nourished.
Take care.
