I just picked up a small bow from a second hand store for $5 it looks like something that would be used in a gym class in High school or even a youth bow. Well its made out of wood is there something I could put on the wood to make it look a little better and to help protect it from the elements?

One part epoxy and 4-5 parts acetone. Its called the "Massey finish" after Jay Massey who is will known in the traditional archery world.

Anyway the mix is VERY tacky and you should soak a rag, rub it on in one direction and let dry. If you try to go over the same area twice, too soon, it will stick. After its dry sand down a little and reapply as many time as you like. I usually go 4+ plus coats. I also use it on my shafts. It drys very hard yet it still allows the bow to bend. It is also extremely water resistant if not water proof.

Google "Jay Massey finish" to learn more about the man and the finish
