Like candles somewhat can natural oils be added to lamp oils to give it a better smell? Instead of using kerosene can a cheap oil without smell be substituted and then herbs etc added so it gives off that smell? Just curious!

Thanks,

I don't know if it can be used in a lamp, but I used to float herb scented vegetable oil in a glass of water put in a piece of wick and light it for a pretty light and smell.

So what kinds of oils can be used that don't smoke too much when burned? Will any type of vegetable oil work as the base and then you can scent them with various herbs etc?

Olive oil and other liquid fats have been used for lighting for millenia.
I've never tried it in 'modern' lamps...but I've received a couple olive oil lamp kits and ancient-style lamps as gifts..... they work as good or better than any candle.......
