look at those soulful eyes! Who could dump this lovely lady?http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i164/wingspot/HPIM5979_edited.jpg
somebody did.

This is Millie, she showed up, (I think Big John brought her up to the house) Back around the 3rd or 4th of September. She's a victim of the economy I bet. I also bet she got a lot bigger than they thought she would. I swore I was going to give her to a rescue, but they seemed kind of irresponsible... so here she stays.
She's a fine lady, a purebred Black and Tan with the most WONDERFUL disposition. One more mouth to feed...oh well.
But this sweet dog earns her keep! She has taken up goat herding with Big John. Not only is she an ace at that, she's keep the coyotes far afield. After 90 days she's ours.
Millie's here to say today, before you bred your dog...for fun or profit or just by accident THINK!! there are lots of dogs like Millie. People buy them or get them for XMAS...
and then after they are no longer cute puppies well,
some go to the pound
some go to a shelter or rescue
some get driven to the country
many DIE in the country from starvation, being hit by a car or shot for pestering/killing livestock.
Millie is the exception, she made it to a farm where she was welcomed.
Millie wants you to know, before you breed you dog, or your dog gets pregnant accidentally, neuter it.
Millie says also, no pups unless it;s a real lifetime committment, and Millie has whispered in my I should tell you...DON'T buy from a pet store, save a life, if you are ready for committment, find a dog at the pound or shelter. Give the gift of life to a dog in peril.

Beautiful dog! I've always wanted a black & tan.
I'm with 'ya on spaying and nutering and shelters. My wife and I volunteered at the local Humane Society for years, and saw every end of the spectrum on the poor animals. We fostered kittens (bottle feeding them) at home, as well as a few rabbits, birds, guinea pigs, and even fish, hapsters and a snake once. Our basset was a surrender case. He had awful teeth and a bad limp when he came in. We took him home to do some physical therapy on his hip, fatten him up a bit, and work on those teeth. He just kinda never left, lol. We have 4 others here too. The beagle was a freebie from someone who kept his female outside, ( intended to be he next great rabbit dog, but thanks to the wife all he hunts are cookies and crumbs), the sheba mix was a stray the wife took in, the bloodhound I actually bought for the wife for xmas, and the border/lab mix my stepdaughter stole from someones house. He was barely 10 weeks old, chained outside in the snow to a cement block, no food or water, and covered in paint...good thing I didn't see where she got him or I'd have been pounding on a door with an attitude. My wife worked at the Humane Society for a short time, and she actually had to think for a week on taking a promotion to the front desk....she knew she would have acess to names and adresses from the seized animals. With the time we both spent there, and things I had seen, I have ZERO tolerance for such people.

Welcome to the family, Millie. You are a very lucky girl, honey. You picked just the right family to wander up to. But you knew that all along, didn't you?! Bless your little canine heart.

Welcome to the BHM family too. I think your beautiful eyes have been adopted by all of us. ((((((((())))))))))

Accept a pat on the head from me and merriest of Christmases to you, on this your first *happy* holiday!!

XOXOXO

Nice looking dog. We don't have alot of black and tans here in the pacific north west. I always pictured them in my mind with longer legs though.

Beautiful dog,her belly looks like she's had at least one litter of pups....I take it by your post that you plan on having her spayed.Good idea.

I love dogs......every single one I've ever owned has been a rescue....

That cat was a rescue, and believe it or not,so was hubby's pet snake(California King Snake)......

We currently have one dog,one cat and one snake.

At one time we had two dogs, the cat, 24 or so hamsters,5 guinea pigs, and a gerbil......all rescues.

If I ever get another pet,it will be a rescue as well.

Yeah, I was thinking maybe she had pups too. I don't want to think about that though because what happened to THEM? She is so very sweet, she has adopted the cat (little more than a kitten).
She is so very loveable. She does not like to be in the house and considers it punishment when I put hyer in the basement because it is COLD outside. We have a nice pellet stove and those interlocking mats the kids have in preschools. She HATES it, I have to wrestle her to the floor, we have those laminate floors that are so slippery, and she is 100 pounds (maybe more) and it is HARD to get her to the stairs, she will walk down if she has no choice.
I have her doghouse on the deck, surrounded by bales of straw, THAT is where she wants to spend the night. I know it's warm, but I really would feel better if she liked to be inside with the real bitter weather coming.
So...a snake with hamsters and guinea pigs and a gerbil, how did THAT work out?

She's a real beauty, I'm so glad that she found someone that would love her.

Living in the country, we have had our share of dumped dogs through the years, and you know what, they all ended up being wonderful companions. They seem to know that you helped them in their time of need and they always seem to be repaying you for what you did for them.

This economy is really putting the dog shelters in a terrible predicament, people are bringing in their animals because they can't afford to take care of them, while other's are just dumping them in the country. They don't even care what these animals will encounter. Very sad!
