At the beginning of July I/we adopted a neutered black tom cat called Mr.B. Since he's about 3 1/2 to 4 yr. old we didn't try and change his name, depending on his mood he will sometimes come when you call him by name.
One night last week I had the top drawer of the file cabinet open to get my pills that I take nightly. Mr. B was on the arm of the couch nearby and while I was digging in one of the pill bottles he proceeded to hop up into the open drawer and then go behind it into the one below. My DD grabbed her digital camera and took some pictures of him in the top drawer once he came back into it, one of which is with the drawer almost closed. We never did figure out why, other than being curious, he went into the drawer. ;D ;D
Early last week DD adopted a neutered black male kitten that has since been named "Little Boy" after the atomic bomb that was dropped on Hiroshima in WW II. I refuse to change Mr. B's name to "Fat Man" or whatever the second bomb's name was.
DD called me Thursday afternoon to say she and the girls couldn't find the kitten. I told her to look under both sets of bunk beds in the back room, behind the couch back there, behind the living room couch, under the drawers in the kitchen where he can go in by the stove, and to even sweep under the living room couch.
She called a few minutes later to tell me she had found him. She was sitting at the computer and realized that he had been asleep on my computer tower which is under the table the monitor is on. She said he stretched and stuck out one paw which she saw and figured out where he was. Leave it to him to get in the one place none of us thought to look. :o :o
Got to love them even if you say you hate cats
We didn't have one when we got back to TX and there were mice in the house so youngest son finally found a kitten for me - got her on Mothers day and she was about 8 weeks old - Miss Purdy.
Then son #3 called and said he had to work out of town all summer so was giving up his apartment as he would be staying in motel in OK - could I keep his cat - 2 year old un fixed male who is now fixed - Stretch
and then about 3 weeks ago DH found a tiny kitten under the back of the house - I would venture that she wasn't even 4 weeks old - they all seem to get along famously with each other, with the dogs and everything else around here.
Sun morning - before power came back on and before daylight we had gotten up and gone into the kitchen to make coffee - when we walked back into the bedroom we sat down on bed - yuck - one of them had deposited a headless mouse right in the middle of the bed - of course it was dark so DH found it when he put his hand on it
gotta love those cats

Oh yea, cats are great. We have 2 indoor/outdoor rescues named Chester and China. Both fixed, but not chubbed out, lay about kitties. They are usually out the door by sunrise, and bring home all kinds of "food" for their family. China is the one we really have to watch though, because several times she has come to the door howling to come in, then zips in with a LIVE catch. It adds a little excitement to the morning coffee routine to have to chase down a live mole, mouse or baby rabbit in the kitchen. She has also brought up live baby pheasants this spring we had to rescue and send back to the wilderness. One thing she does catch is something I've never heard of a cat doing is garter snakes. Thankfully you can see when she has one of those. We are now in the habit; however, of checking her mouth before she gets to come in.
Chester on the other hand, bring everything up dead, deposits it right on the door mat for you to step on, then sits back and waits for his "good Boy" praise. He is only a fair weather hunter though. As soon as the wood stove starts up in the fall, his spot is either on the kitty bed about six feet from the stove or on top of the 7 foot tall bookcase.
This should probably go in the humor section; but since the initial post was about cats, I thought I would share it here.
To My Kittens,
Just as my momma cat taught me, and you'll teach your kittens, I'm passing these eternal cat truths to you:
Water is BAD.
If it flies, chase it.
Reflected light might
be a trick - but chase
it anyway.
Gravity works - even if
you're sleeping!
Batting dry cat food under the refrigerator is a lot of fun.
Sadly, everything in a pull-top can is not cat food.
The same applies when you hear the can-opener running.
Christmas trees are loaded with playthings.
Computer pointers are very hard to catch.
When the vacuum cleaner awakes, hide until the humans can wrestle it back into the closet.
Despite their appearance, humans are intelligent creatures and can be trained.
While some dogs may be scary, other dogs have fluffy tails which are fun to claw at from a convenient perch on a chair!
If your humans fail to share their fresh water, any faucet is a good place to lick.
Don't jump up on humans when they are eating, they will NOT believe you when you try to explain that you just wanted to say hello.
Bringing a just-captured mouse into the house is a perfect way to show your human what a huntress you are!
Never EVER climb on the kitchen table to smell the roses, humans apparently don't enjoy cleaning up glass or replacing vases.
Some humans keep fish, but in spite of conventional feline wisdom, they're not considered to be acceptable prey. Humans will come to their defense with WATER GUNS!
Humans like it when you curl up around their heads at night and purr but will often object if you start kneading their hair.
The best place to lay is a freshly washed and dried pile of laundry, not only is it warm, but it's fluffy, too!

Thanks lsg for posting that here. Much of it fits our cats, except the hunting part as they aren't allowed outside for their own safety. I brought an inside/outside neutered male when I moved here last year but he disappeared this spring when we were gone at night for a couple of weeks. No one seems to know what happened to him and we never found his body so we think he found a new home with someone willing to keep him inside.
