Microchip Implants

Does anyone know if there is a way to find and de-activate a microchip implant. My dog Mandy came from the Humane Society, and they tell me she`s chipped.

Find it , cut it out and then squash it like a bug. Thats the free way.

They are usually put in between the shoulder blades, I could feel the one on our St. Bernard. There is nothing to 'deactivate'; they are RFID, and don't have their own power source. They just reflect back their number when scanned with a reader, by getting their power from the reader. At least, that's how I understand the explanations I've read.
