whats with my dog

we had our GP bred and now she has 6 pups, all girls. she was a really good momma, but now something is awry. right this minute the pups are crying their hearts out, wanting lunch, but momma just lies there, sort of lethargic, did not touch her breakfast. I do not know much about dogs, maybe someone can tell me what is the matter. should I take her to the vet?

I'd at least give one a call. You might want to consider your dogs diet. I figure it's tough enough to have the little ones let alone feeding them. If her diet isn't well balanced she could become animic (sp). Also is your girl getting outside around other dogs where she might pick something up from them?

Where did you get your dog from, if a breeder could you call them and see if they have any suggestions and of course there's good ole Google....

This is going to sound absolutely crazy, but dogs can get postpartum depression. It's all based on hormones. Call the vet.

I just signed on so I am a newbie. By now you probably have an answer. But it sounds like she may have had mastitis. They can get very sick from this, so can the pups. The mom can also get a calcium deficency (spelling sorry). With this the mom gets very sick. It can become life threatening. Hope every every thing turned out ok.
