I dunno, Charlotte. It was -45 here a few days ago, and I guarantee that that water would be 0C. They'd be warmer under it than on top of it.

No kidding? Well, I guess that explains how they can do that and not freeze to death...I myself have never jumped through the ice of a frozen lake, so I wouldn't know. :D

Last summer I was working on the homestead, and we didn't have water in the camper or in the hot water heater, but it was hot and I needed a shower. the wife suggested, I fire up the well pump, prop the 2" hose up and have a shower. I was spick and span in 3.6 seconds! :D

When we were building we stayed in a tent our shower was a pallet with a kiddie pool and a tarp. The water in the hose would be hot but once that was gone it was cold. Somehow I always wound up with the last shower and the cold water and I was always the dirtyest

In 2003, for reasons I won't go into (LOL), I showered outside. I have a 2-ton truck w/hoist bed. I had my 300 gallon tank sitting on the back of it. I screwed a small piece of garden hose to it. On the end of it, I put one of those caps you can screw onto the end of the hose, but I had poked about 5 or 6 small holes with an ice pick.
I was still working away from home at the time. Through the summer and even into early fall, the water in the tank would be warm when I got home from work. I think it was a combination of the steel truck bed heating up and the sun shining on the tank.
I had a shower pan I decided not to use in the house. I set it up on some red bricks. It was great for showering and kept me from getting my feet muddy.
Sometimes, I think I should do it that way again. lol
