-This is a long story, so bear with me.

Yesterday, I was out with my rat terrier, Dixie, doing a little tramping. Earlier she had treed opossum, squirrel, and killed some rats. Well, we were starting to drive out of the area when something ran across the road ahead. I opened the door and the dog ran to the spot and immediately starting barking her head off and sprinting after what turned out to be a bobcat. When I say sprint, I mean sprint. (We have clocked her at 30 mph, preety good for a little dog like her) Well she treed it the first time in a little scrub of a pine. I got up to the tree, found out what it was and it jumped tree. Dixie ran after it and treed again. It jumped tree again and this time Dixie caught it before it could get anywhere. The last I saw of it was Dixie hanging on to the bobcats rear end and trying to set her feet. SHe got drug out of sight and they apparently had quite a little scrap, because when I found her, she could barely walk. Scratched up, sore. Not suprising since she is all of 30 lbs. soaking wet. I was having to carry her everywhere once we got back home. She is better this morning but is still a pretty sick pup.

Poor dog! Are the slashes deep? I found a great spray that is good for healing up open wounds. It's called Scarlex I put it on my birds if they get attacked by a raccoon and they heal up in no time.

Sorry, for the late reply. Had the flu... The slashes were preety deep. Still healing. Where do you get the Scarlex?

I found it at the local feed store - it was in the horse area.

Little Late But if it happens again........ clean it real well and super glue works onders for closing gashes..... also keep some pennicillin On hand in the fridge.. speak with a vet on the dosage to give your pup......

I have used dogs in some form or fashion for the last 20 years to chase everything from Rats to mtn Lion and especially Coyotes..... i started out learning how to stitch from my vet 150- 500 dollar vet vistits every weekend to have a dog sewn up sucks..... then i fell in with a group of coursers from idaho running coyotes and i had a dog hit a fence full speed and lay open her shoulder I broke out my gear and they broke out theirs . well seems i forgot the locla so they took over. 6 weeks late all i had was a scared up Little girl ready to run coyotes again . 3main things a carry in my Kit right now are sterile water pennicillin and Superglue i still carry my suture Kit but im terribly out of practise with my stitching do to superglue and Getting rid Of the coursing dogs

Bless those fearless little dogs...I had a dachsund/jack russel cross that would go after everything like he was as big as a bear. He had a ton of courage and a seven pound body. Your dog is more than likely going to be way shy of cats in the future.

Well, an update. She turned out to be more made at cats than anything else. ;D She healed up well and is back hunting and killing general vermin. Gotta love the rats.
