I wanted a light, accurate .22 that would fit in a pack or behind the seat of a bushplane. Haven't been impressed by the usual commercial offerings, so I put my own version together starting with a used Ruger 10-22. Bought a Butler Creek folding stock, bobbed the fore-end, removed the barrel band, relieved the barrel channel, and installed a forward sling-swivel stud. Replaced the factory barrel with a Tactical Solutions lightweight bull-barrel with a threaded end. Topped the receiver with a Tactical Solutions Picatinny rail and an Aimpoint. Did a little trigger work with a stone and magnifying glass. I already had an AWC "Titanium Archangel" suppressor and some Tactical Innovations 25-round magazines.

looks awesome!
my only suggestion is if you want it to be a true survival gun you may want to fin a way to add iron sights.....a good gunsmith can cut a dovetail in the barrel to install a front sight, receiver mounted rear peep sight would be my choice for tyhe back....you should still be able to use your scope
I wish I could own a suppressor in IL

Have you looked at brownings take down semi-auto 22 RF?
Breaks in half in ca. 2 seconds, accurate, durable and field strippable with no tools.

looks like a fun and useful tool. I wish the 10/22 came with a stock that was decent out of the box. Maybe I'll troll the pawn shops for a modified 10/22.

Another thing nice about those Brownings is, they don't sit in your hand like a "beached whale!" They are nice and slim, with no clips to loose.

I've got a Taurus pump with a 16" barrel and it takes down at the receiver with a simple thumb screw. A lot more accurate than my 10/22 also.

Try Model 62 rhat is what Rossi called ot before Taurus Acquired Rossi. It is a copy of the much vaunted Winchester 62.
Mine is a Rossi from the early 70s offhand it will shoot right there with my Anschutz Target Rifles and with Cheap Ammo too. Thay are great little rifles watch the auctions for them you can usually find them well under $200.

This is an auction of an original Winchester Model 62 that the Rossu/Taurus is a copy of this one is in extraordinary condition and is priced accordingly. It has some good pictures so you can see what the gun looks like.

Yep. The Taurus looks just like that with the exception of a safety lever on top of the bolt. Doggone lawyers had to ruin the beautiful lines of the original.

That's why I like my Rossi, made before the lawyers wreaked their havoc. I don't know if Taurus makes a .22 Magnum version or ever did but Rossi made one and of particular interest to hunters the early ones will feed .22 WRF from which the .22 Mag was developed.
The advantage? The WRF is midway between a long rifle and a Magnum. 45 grain lead bullet. Punches nice hole without damaging as much meat or pelt.
In the last few years Winchester has been loading the .22 Magnum with their famous DYNAPOINT bullet which accomplishes the same thing. Great penetration and expansion but the bullet holds together does not explode like most HPs. Does not over penetrate and wound like the .22 Mag FMJs.
I have a good stash of the now long-discontinued CCI 50 gr GOLD DOT HPs which is my first choice for magnum with the Dynapoint next.

Agree 100% with this! Iron sights would be a good idea in the event your glass goes down.
