As I walked out of the house this morning on my way to work, I heard our dog welping as I saw taillights heading down the road. He was chasing a car and was hit. By the time I got to him he had passed.
I couldn't begin to tell you the story of this dog but here is the abridged version.
We were supposed to trade two ferrets for the dog, we got the dog, the other people never took the ferrets. He stayed at my sisters house until he broke loose from his chain and disappeared. A few days later, he showed up about a mile away, right next to our house. We set him up there and he was good until last Valentines day. We had a pretty good snow storm and during it, he broke loose again. We couldn't find him at all. In June, my mother-in-law found a sign for a lost dog that looked like ours. So, I traveled about 10 miles away and found the dog. To be honest, I wasn't sure it was him but it acted like him, looked a lot like him, and seemed to know me. Either way, he went home with me to our new house. He seemed to like it however wanted to run still. So....I purchased a wireles pet containment system to keep him around. That is a whole other story but eventually, he figured it out and it worked. He could still get on the dirt road a little ways but, he seemed to get out of the way. Last week, he tangled with the neighbors german shepard and his collar broke. I took it to work to fix it and it still sits on the desk at my office.
So, he was hit just as I went out the door. I picked him up and he was lifeless. At least it was quick.
