any recommendations for good literture on training dogs, i have some experience with the basics as i have well trained dogs most of my life but i would like to get into the more advanced training (obedience, tracking and protection) basically i want to train some pups from the time they are weined to work as a team in the areas mentioned above, i dont want viscious uncotrollable dogs, well mannered well trained pets are the goal here. there are thousands of books on the market and trying to figure out which ones are good seems like a very time consuming and expensive task.

I am not an expert on training dogs. However, my experience over the past 70 some years indicate to me that the most important thing is to get a breed of dog that has been bred to do the work or activity you want. I am most experienced with dogs used for hunting and working livestock. They are bred for it and come to it naturally with only some early guidance.
