The outside cat mentioned in my scary funny story has almost no tail anymore :'(. She's a beautiful, long-haired, tortiseshell cat and had a georgous fluffy tail! Her pride and joy would be my guess as she carried it all fluffed out, standing up over her back.
A few weeks back I noticed a bad sore on her tail, about an inch and a half from where it joined her body. I checked it out as best I could but she didn't let me get too close to her. Last week I mentioned it to one of the other trailer park residents and she told me that some kids had put a rubberband around the cats tail! >:(.
I told her to put out the word that if I found out who had done it I would call the cops on them and have them charged with animal cruelty! Her tail fell off a few days ago and the stump seems to be healing okay but it sure is a shame that someone would do something like that to my way of thinking.
Oh yes, if I didn't already have lots of inside cats she'd be brought inside before something else can happen to here, as would the tortiseshell male that I also feed.

Whenever I read a story about animal cruelty from children, I first wonder if anyone is ever watching them and then I think about what the experts say about the children that do this grow up to do worse.

I feel really bad for that cat, is there anyway else that you could protect these poor cats from these vicious children?

Only thing I could do would be bring them inside. I checked her tail stub yesterday and it's still pink on the end. I may take her to the vet next week.

MYellowRose,

What kind of parents do these kids have? We have a son (grown now) who loves animals because my wife and I taught him that pets are members of the family and are to be loved and cared for, not abused. When he was a teen-ager we had a little female miniature schnauzer and our son thought that she was his baby sister....

Sounds like this kitty would have a good home if you captured her and took her to the vet.

I'm into animal (particularly cat) rescue and if it were me, I'd just set out a humane trap... watch it like a hawk (so the kids don't capture the cat in the trap like a sitting duck!!)... and then run any cats you capture in to the vet. Most of the time there's cat rescue groups who would gladly help you out in finding a home.

There's a HUGE monetary fine for animal cruelty. The trouble is... most of the time when the kids find out that this sort of thing "pushes your buttons", they'll increase their cruelty. And that's exactly what you don't want.

I know. We have experienced this in our neighborhood too.

I'd just capture any stray cats around and take them to the vet and inquire about some rescue groups. Quietly removing them from the situation is probably your best bet. And then be hush-hush about it, not letting anybody know what you did. Just let the kids think the cats ventured off and are gone.

Good luck!
