Post subject: found dog/ foxhound or foxhound beagle cross
I have in my home a lovely lady the vet and I believe to be a small American foxhound (might be a foxhound/beagle cross). She appears to be pregnant. Now that's the happy part. Now for the REALLY sad part.
We found her this AM sitting next to a skinned racoon, probably awaiting the demon that shot her TWICE in the head . The vet expects her to live. She will definitely lose one eye and her sinuses (thus her scenting) are shot. She will hunt no more.
Last week we observed a dead foxhound in the creekbed near our home. It has been raining and due to our ages (not so spry anymore) neither my husband nor I could get to the poor dog to bury it. A few nights ago we heard a dog first barking then howling. I assume it was this little lady happening upon the body of her mate??
We have had a rash of dog thefts in this area. This could have been someone's pair of foxhounds. She seems to know that humans can be kind. She is under vet's care and on medication as she has a very serious infection going on in her sinuses. Her eye surgery will come when she has some strength.
If you are the owner and have an explanation for how your poor sweet girl ended up like this, post a reply. I can and will take care of her if you are no longer interested in a dog that can't hunt . I believe this girl may have been stolen and abused by those who took her.
I think she has suffered quite enough so there will need to be vet references before she is claimed out and proof of ownership. Anything less and law enforcement will be notified and explanations can be made to them.
If this is your girl and you love her, she is sleeping soundly (snoring loudly because of her shot up sinuses) warm and dry in the house.
