The new series starts tonight on the History Channel. Thought it might be worth at least checking out. Then I can critique it to death. :)

Did I ever waste my time!!! About the only thing I saw that was remotely interesting was the "field expedient" diesil but I even wonder on that one. I guess if you WANT to die real quick he would be the one to follow. JMO

I watched it too, and I kind of liked the fact that he suggested that people head INTO the cities in case of disaster, only for the reason that I am out in the country.

The only thing I learned from it was using steel wool and a battery to make fire, I didn't know you could do that and I thought it was pretty cool.

Jumping onto some cables in an elevator shaft, going down into sewers, or using a tire iron and some rope to swing onself to another side of a bridge were all either far-fetched or just stupid, INMO.

ROFL I agree. Maybe we should mass produce the part about going INTO a city and distribute it web wide. ;) What amazed me was the fact that was the FIRST thing he said and I just about turned it off there. But I figured I would HAVE to see what other tidbits he had. If the trip INTO the city didnt get you the rope throwed into a truss would and EVEN if that didn't get you the cable thing would weed out even more weak bodied (minded) folks. There was a lot of bad decisions. I guess whoever was left in that CITY would be one tough individual. Survival Of The Fittest in action right there. ;)

I agree with you all-I had taped the show and watched it last night-
He couldn't find another way AROUND the bridge? The show was disjointed at best. I liked the steel wool thing also, and the part about the bio diesel was ok-but a lot of what he did made no sense to me. Why did he bother to take over the hospital and get the generator going? He didn't stay. I also didn't like the part when he broke into that house-he became the looter that we have all threatened to shoot if they came in-why would he encourage someone to take their life into their hands like that? He really didn't show how to hot wire the car-or the fact that you would have to probably break the lock on the steering column to drive the car. I don't get it-
A much better show to watch-and you can watch it online is "Survive This" on spike TV.
The guy is very detailed and shows a much more realistic scenario and way of doing things.

It reminds me of the days before they improved the Army MOPP (Chemical/Biological) gear. You had to be fully suited up with mask on and functioning in so many SECONDS. The drill sergeant said, " It gives you something to do while you wait to die." This held true in alot of what was portrayed on that show.

He's worried about fording the river and being seen, but he'll climb a bridge (almost impossible for most of us), and then go down into sewers???!!!!! Does he know that these sewers contain filthy water, toxins, rats, methane gas, little oxygen and antiquated power lines that can get him electrocuted? I can't imagine a river being more polluted or dangerous than a sewer. Also, he chose to cross at a bridge where, if there were bad guys, it would be a choke point where they would congregate. Then, he used 1 gallon of fuel to power a hospital generator???? One gallon wouldn't even fill the lines and fuel pump....and he supposedly had the gen set up for 4 hours??? And wouldn't a hospital be the last place to go? As long as there are people and the hospital has power, there will be people there. Further, he's trying to remain out of sight, but he goes INTO a city instead of away from it. Then he breaks into houses without doing any reconnaissance and risks running into someone armed....which he isn't!!!!! I'm sorry if I sound skeptical, but the guy tries to contact people and gives away his position. In a perfect world where everyone is good and wants to help, that might work. Personally, I'd stay cloaked, listen for a few days and then decide whether I wanted any company. And I wouldn't go into a city unless I had no other options! AND WHAT ABOUT TRAVELING AT NIGHT, FOR PETE'S SAKE????

He mentioned that one of the bad parts was being alone. Being alone is better than being dead. Stay covered, stay concealed and watch your six at all times unless you are "dead" sure of who is out there. Just my .02

I agree, this show was a joke. The guy spent more energy and time going into a city, where the locals would be king. The only thing I liked from the whole show was showing how to start a fire from a steel wool pad and a 9 volt battery. In reality, starting a fire would just attract bad guys.
