I've nevver owned one but 2 good friends of mine ea have a BPS 10 ga. They have both shot everything (1 of them shot two burglers with one 54 pellet load of #4 buck) with them.
They are very finely made, durable guns.

I've heard they are good guns, but have you handled or fired one? I picked up one a few days ago, and it didn't fit me at all. You need to fire a few different brands, and buy what FITS YOU.

I think DM makes a very good point and to further his point I offer this thread on another forum where the BPS is discussed vs the Remington 870.

If you read the whole thread you will see DM's point about fit made over and over again by shotgunners.

Browning BPS are great guns. We own a BPS 12 ga and a BPS micro 20 gauge. Many rounds shot through both. Never jammed once.
I had a remington 870 that constantly jammed no matter what I did. Got rid of the remington and bought a strictly hunting 12 gauge.
But fit is important. Both the brownings have short lengths of pull, making them great for women and shooters with shorter arms. Maybe not so great for others. Find what fits you well.
It depends too on what you're going to use it for. For waterfowl I have a Winchester SX2, which is perfect for mallards and geese but not much else. for bunnies and grouse I have a Charles Daly side by side 20. Super light in the field.

If you find yourself with a BPS (or any other gun) with a too short length of pull one option would be to add a recoil pad such as this

You may have had an 870 that jammed, but anyone who knows shotguns knows that, that's by far NOT normal for 870's. The Rem. 870 is one of the most reliable shotguns ever made, and if i was buying a pump shotgun, A Remingtom 870 Wingmaster would be my first choise.

Generally I agree with DM about the 870's history. I have had a Wingmaster since the late 1960's and it is a GREAT gun.
Unfortunately the 870 EXPRESS has a less than glorious history and the entire Remington production has suffered QA wise since before their acquisition by Cerberus.
A well-cared-for older Wingmaster can be a tremendous asset.

Yeah, I think what I had was an 870 express. I have a remington 30-06 that is flawlessly reliable. I do know that my Winchester SX2 semi 12 gauge has never jammed. Even with mud in the action in the goose pit. To each their own.
