My sweet little doggie was ran over last night when she shot out across the road right when my oldest son was just coming home. She had just been in the house and got off the chair to go to her crate where she slept every night and I asked her if she wanted to go outside one last time before she went to bed so I had just let her out and she started chasing the cats as she usually liked to do. All in fun, the cats loved it and loved her, too. I went back inside and just in the next couple of minutes I saw my son pull into the driveway and back out and drive just a bit up the gravel road and stop. I knew that someone must have gotten hit, either the dog or one of the cats. He came back all shook up and upset and told me the dog was dead on the side of the road and wanted me to come with him. I grabbed something to put her in and went. She looked so sweet, just like she might have went to sleep. No bleeding or anything. We will be burying her a little later this morning. My son feels so guilty and I tried to tell him it wasn't his fault the dog started chasing the cat across the road at that moment and I feel guilty over having just let her out when she was on her way to bed. If I had just let her go on to bed. I cried and cried last night remembering her sweet and funny little ways. She was just about a year and a half. I miss her. :'(

I am so very sorry to head about your puppy. It's amazing how close you can become to one. I know there is nothing that can be said or done to change things, but I am sorry for you.

Oh Cattails I am so sorry . :'(

I never let my Yorkies out unless they were in a fenced area . I just couldn't go thought that .

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. It must be soooo hard on your son. Keep reassuring him it wasn't his fault, and prayers to both of you... :'(

Thank you all very much for your kind replies. I've told my son it wasn't his fault and hope he believes it. He doesn't want to talk about it anymore. Nancy, you don't know how much I wish I had a fenced in yard. My dh had put up some kind of rope pulley system something or another that we would tie her to when she was outside but she was constantly getting tangled up in the bushes and when she wasn't, she did nothing but run back and forth in a path she created trying to get off of it. She enjoyed being outside so much, especially recently with the weather changing, and we lived so far off the highway that I didn't imagine she could get run over on a gravel road with hardly any traffic. But it can. I don't plan on getting another dog until I have some way to let it be outside but still protected. Thank you all again.

I understand . When we first moved to the country we put up a temporary fence with T-post and chicken wiring that was about 20 X 20 .

When we got settled in we fenced a 60 X 60 area for them off the back door .

Thanks again, ya'll. It's a little easier today, but I already had one crying spell. I posted a picture on Pre's board of her with the kittens she was sure was her's ;D, and I just wanted to post one here of her standing up looking at my son (while he was on the computer) saying "pick me up and hold me please". That way these pictures will be always handy for me to look at when I'm feeling the need to see her, because I'm most always here or there.

Cattails,
I have a picture of the dog I lost last Halloween to cancer, it sits up on top of my refrigerator, that way I can see that gorgeous face all the time.
