I got tired of spending bucks at the store for treats for our guinea pigs, so tonite, my 10 year old daughter and I mixed together the leftover skins and cores from the apples we used for sauce (the whole apple was cooked, then put through a apple sieve for the sauce, so the peels and cores were pureed), some old-fashioned oatmeal, grated carrots and a dash of cinnamon. We then made little blocks or cookies and baked them for a long time til they were hard and crunchy. They smell good-lol...we'll try them out tomorrow. I'll let you know if the critters like 'em. If not, I may feed 'em to hubby :-) I've done the same for horses and dogs in the past.
