Greeting everyone.

We've lived off grid for nearly 11 years on the East side of the Cascade mountains in WA. At 3,000' we get snow and the 3.8 mile truck trail to the pavement is only covered by snowmobile this time of year. Jackie likes quilting and growing her small flock of Shetland sheep. We home school the kids (15 & 13) and Marshall keeps busy with his WISP business (Wireless Internet Service Provider) We subscribed to BWH many years ago, and look forward to contributing to the forums here. We recorded a silly welcome video(for another site) that you may enjoy and get a kick out of!

Our silly welcome video (http://www.genverters.com/about/)

Thank you kindly,
Marshall and Jackie

Welcome to the forum. We have some similarities. I've been off-grid since 1998 and have a small house I built that is 3/8 mile off the road. However, I may be in the hills but not a mountain. lol

So, with that 3/8 mile did you choose Grid or alternate?

I chose alternate. I had planned to go grid and gradually make the switch as I learned more about solar as well as electricity in general. However, after a heated discussion, I told them I didn't need them. It was REA. So, for 1/3 of what they wanted, I was able to go solar.
