I found an ad on Craig's list in our state for two peacock chicks, on a year old the other about 3-6 months, both males, old both for 50 dollars each,,one is blue the other is pied..the blue is the older one,, we have geese chickens and goats in the barn so they wont be without companionship,, I was wondering what the prices for birds were in your areas.. North Dakota here.. I'm hoping to get a female eventually.. maybe two.. this summer lot of coops and runs gonna be built.
Turkeys and guineas on the list as well..
Hoping to pic up the birds tomorrow if the weather is good..
Anyone out there kept a couple males before without a female present let me know how it turned out
Dont know how long it will be before we find a cheap female
In the long run we will barter for the chicks...

my neighbor had a fair sized flock of peafowl a few years ago - their numbers slowly dwindled as they mingled with and finally left town with wild turkey flocks - and once isolated to the boonies they did not fare well with our coyotes -

That's a great price.
I would just buy the blue myself, but they should be ok together even if you get both. At this point there wouldn't be any hens to fight over.

prices vary so much its hard to say. I get $5 per egg, $25-$35 per chick from a week old up to grouse size/ In spring a good male can easily fetch $100 or more and that same bird in October might only bring $15.. i like to sell at the bird auctions, the "fever" helps bump up some prices.

I have pied, white, blu, black shoulder and cameo right now. Probably cut back as rabbits take over more space. I'll keep the Amhersts, got rid of all the golds and others.

keeping males together works well enuff, some times; other times it just wont do. Ya just gotta try it and see how it goes.

these boys were raised together and so far they are staying in the barn,,,we are hoping to also purchasing some turkeys for the farm and guinea hens as well.. dont have any wild turkeys coming onto the property as yet.. hoping to have what would tempt them to leave here domestically so they want to stay..
picking them up in middle of the afternoon and bringing them home after dark helped a lot.. i just cut the sleeves i carried them home in and layed them down in the hay in the middle of the barn then placed them on the rafters with the rest of the chickens,,
got up this am and they were scratching around with the rest of the fowl...
the blue isnt tame but the pied chick is calmer
am looking to buy two more females.. color doesnt matter
and how is the breeding situation with them,, one on one or one male to several females.. need to get on the internet more and get infor on them,, create a folder for each species we have here... all birds here will be free ranged until i get some really good large pens built for the boys... would also like to know what they need for egg laying eventually so i can have that set up ahead of time.
I got to see the parent birds while I was there on premises as well.
the hen was white and the male was blue,, boy she sure was pretty up there in the rafters.. didnt even know the hens could have a comb...

Sounds like a good price to me. You will probably be OK unless you set them free. The males alone will take off unless there are females around.

I like to run pairs but I am running 3 hens with 1 older cock.

!st cross of blue x white makes blues with a white throat spot and white wing flight, back to white and get some good pies. I am putting a pied cock over a white hen this year, hoping for a more open pattern? I dont let mine roam, yet. i hope to except they do wander off at times and make a mess in places, like the roof. they can be a pita.

Oh I can vouch for that - they are a royal pain when left to free range! They will love your porch - anywhere they can peer in the windows at you. Will peck at your stove pipes, eat your garden and multiply like crazy!

Mine liked to stop traffic by laying their tails across the road till someone ran over one guy's tail! He came back all bedraggled but quit that habit. ;-)

Jake was trained to keep the peacocks in their place. ;-)

Pssssttttt... Silver... Git one of those mirrors you hang on a bedroom door for dressing... Peafowl are vainnnn and will hang around the mirror. Remember they need higher protein feed and watch those beaks.. they can pierce yur nose fur yas.. ready or not! They are great alarm systems!
